Information for Employers

Employers can initiate a request for issuance of a Temporary Teaching Permit (TTP) by submitting the employer Authorization to Teach form once the candidate of choice is selected and an offer of employment has been made.

Individuals must be currently living in Canada to be issued a TTP. A TTP does not demonstrate proof of provincial teacher certification for immigration or work permit purposes. As the title indicates, a TTP is only a temporary permit and is not a teaching certificate.

If an individual, residing in Canada, is in the process of applying for a Saskatchewan teaching certificate (Canadian labour mobility or Internationally Educated Teacher), the employer may request a TTP be issued to the applicant to allow them to fill a position while their certification assessment is being completed.

Individuals may hold TTP's to work for more than one employer, however a separate Authorization to Teach form and TTP application (from candidate) is required for each employer.

Requests for issuance of a TTP will not be reviewed until all required documents from both the employer and the TTP applicant have been received by the SPTRB.

Once a TTP application is ready for review, the SPTRB staff strive to issue the TTP to approved candidates within 5 business days for temporary contract positions and within 10 business days for substitute positions. These timelines may be impacted during periods of high volumes for certification applications. The applicant cannot start employment until they have been issued the TTP.

Further details on the issuance of TTP's can be found in Section 22 of The Registered Teachers ActSchedule D of the SPTRB Regulatory Bylaws, and the Employer Information brochure.

Employer Requests for Change to TTP Teaching Assignment

If an employer wishes to change the teaching assignment of a TTP holder, a Teaching Assignment Change request form must be submitted to the SPTRB prior to the change taking effect.
